If you’re looking to find a good foundation for mature skin, you’ve come to the right place… I was just in Korea a couple of months ago where I got to speaking with a skincare rep at a store. When I told her what products and skincare brands I was using, she pretty much told me that I was using all the wrong things because I had “mature” skin, whereas the products I was using were for “young” skin. When I say I was shocked…

At my age, I never even considered that I might have “mature” skin yet, so I had no idea what to do with that information. Luckily, she had me covered. She recommended me some makeup products that are “good for mature skin,” and that provided different levels of coverage depending on what I needed for the day. And I have to say, I noticed a HUGE difference when using these products vs. the ones I was using before. Not only did they provide the coverage I was looking for, but they also felt very light going onto my skin, did not dry it out at all, and actually felt moisturizing without any oiliness! Since then, they’ve become my staples. And now I want to share them with anyone else who may be looking for makeup products for mature skin 💜

The Best Foundations for Mature Skin

Description: This is the lightest of the three foundations I bought. But still, this clean formula provides decent, long-lasting coverage and hydration to the skin. It’s also formulated to highlight your skin and give it a natural radiant glow.

Why it’s good: This lightweight foundation provides good coverage and a dewy glow, which I absolutely love. Instead of mattifying my face like some other products, it looks really natural. Of the three foundations I got, this provides the lightest coverage, but it can be layered to provide full coverage of your face depending on what you need. It contains varying sizes of hyaluronic acid, which helps provide moisture to the skin. And you can really feel this on application because it stamps and blends in easily… so much so that I can use it as spot coverage, and it works great, without looking uneven.

I’ll admit that my skin doesn’t have the smoothest texture sometimes, but this product still incorporates easily onto my skin without any streaks, patchiness, or dryness, which I sometimes experience with other foundations. The formula is really light and moisturizing. And the applicator cushion that it comes with gives you a lot of control when applying the product, so it can really get into any creases and you can decide how light or heavy coverage you get.

(Another bonus is that this product comes with some really good skincare sample freebies!)

Description: This is the mid-level foundation of the ones I bought. This medium coverage foundation boasts a moisturizing texture that provides many hours of hydration (which is excellent for mature skin) and a soft satin finish. It’s infused with flower extract, which improves the overall health of the skin and gives you a glow-from-within look.

Why it’s good: Just a thin layer of this foundation provides great coverage and a blurry finish to your skin that lasts all day. It feels weightless on the skin and can be layered to hide any and all imperfections.

My skin is pretty volatile, but regardless of whether it is pretty dry/dehydrated, or if it’s going through an oily spell, this foundation applies smoothly and stays on well throughout the duration of use. It’s also great for layering other products as it doesn’t smear or get greasy.

Description: This is a silky liquid foundation that provides medium coverage, all the while bringing out a glow in your skin. It’s formulated with hyaluronic acid, making it really moisturizing and comfortable to keep on all day, and infused with fine powder, which helps evenly cover your pores, creases, or any imperfections on your skin. It also employs a special fixing technology that provides transfer-proof coverage.

Why it’s good: This longwear foundation provides really good coverage and has a non-drying texture that easily smooths onto the skin and keeps it hydrated for the duration that its on, all without creasing or becoming greasy. Of the three foundations I bought, it provides the most coverage. And similarly to the others, it can be layered to suit your needs.

Given the amount of coverage this one provides, I usually only wear it when I’m going to special events. But whenever I wear it, I can barely feel it on my skin. Even in the heat, it holds well, and I can feel confident that by the end of the night, it still looks good.

Another thing that I noticed is that it doesn’t clog pores or cause breakouts - which is amazing since I tend to be prone to acne.

The Best Primer for Mature Skin

Description: This is a primer with a moisturizing formula that smooths out the appearance of the skin and contains fine textured pearl particles to create a glowy, and make-up ready surface for subsequent make-up steps (which tbh you don’t even need after this if you’re just looking for light coverage).

Why it’s good: The liquidy formula of this primer applies super easily into skin, and it creates a lightly beige glow that incorporates into your natural skin tone. For example, my friend and I have pretty different skin tones, but we both use this product daily and it works well for both of us. Some days, this is the only coverage product I use on my skin, and I feel like it’s sufficient!

The formula is super hydrating, instead of drying like other primers that I’ve used, which is why it’s great for mature skin. And, it is so light that I feel like haven’t even applied anything to my skin, but still get the beneficial effects of a primer.

And there you have it… the make-up products that I’ve tried and LOVED for my “mature” skin. If you choose to try any of these out, I’d love to hear your thoughts (and any other product recs you may have)!
